Is a self-paced online course the right choice for our learning goals?
Self-paced learning works well when people need to learn at different times, revisit important information or complete the same training across teams and locations. If your goals depend mainly on discussion, hands-on practice with feedback or collaboration, a workshop or blended format may be more suitable. We can discuss this before deciding on a format.
How much time will our team need to contribute?
For a smaller project, you will usually need a main contact, input from subject-matter experts, a kick-off meeting, two review rounds and final approval. We will agree on responsibilities and feedback dates at the start so the work fits around your team's other commitments.
How do you make complex scientific or technical content understandable without losing accuracy?
I work with subject-matter experts to identify what learners need to understand or do, then develop a clear structure, explanations, examples and activities. Your experts review the specialist content at agreed stages, so accuracy remains in the hands of the people who know the subject best.
How long does it take to develop an online course?
A smaller, clearly defined self-paced course can often be developed in around four weeks when source materials are available and feedback is timely. Projects involving extensive writing, multiple stakeholders or complex interactions may take longer. We will agree on a realistic schedule before development begins.
How much does custom e-learning development cost?
The price depends on the amount of content, the complexity of the learning activities and how much needs to be developed from scratch. After an initial conversation, I will prepare a fixed-price proposal setting out the scope, deliverables, timeline and included review rounds.
Can you work with publicly funded projects and university procurement requirements?
Yes. I can provide a written quotation with a clear description of the services, deliverables, timeline and costs. If your institution or funded project has specific procurement documents or reporting requirements, please share them early so we can check what needs to be included.
Will the course work with Moodle, ILIAS or OpenOlat?
I deliver courses as SCORM packages for learning management systems such as Moodle, ILIAS and OpenOlat. Before development, we will confirm the format your system supports and any requirements for tracking completion or assessment results. Where access is available, we can test the course in your LMS before delivery.
Can learners complete quizzes, track progress or receive certificates?
Courses can include knowledge checks, assessments and completion criteria. Recording results and issuing certificates depend on your learning platform and its configuration. We will check which features your institution supports before deciding how to set up the course.
How do you address accessibility in online courses?
I consider accessibility from the start, including clear structure and navigation, alternative text for images, captions where needed and appropriate choices of interactions. If your institution has specific accessibility or testing requirements, we will discuss them early and agree on what can be implemented and verified as part of the project.
How is learner data handled, and what about GDPR?
I deliver the course for use on your institution's own learning platform rather than hosting learner accounts myself. Your LMS manages access, progress records and assessment results. Data-protection requirements also depend on platform settings and any external content or services included, so we will clarify those requirements with your team during planning.
Can we use figures from publications, research materials or third-party images?
Often, but permission to reuse materials depends on the relevant licences and rights, especially for published figures, photographs and other third-party content. Your institution should confirm the rights for materials it provides. I can help identify items that may need clarification and suggest alternatives where necessary.
Who can use the finished course, and can we share it with project partners?
Usage rights are agreed before development and documented in the project agreement. They can cover ongoing internal use and, if needed, distribution to partner institutions or a wider audience. We will clarify the intended use before work begins, including whether editable project files are required.
Can our team edit, translate or update the course later?
Yes. I can make changes and provide an updated course package. If your team would prefer to edit the course independently, we can discuss handing over an editable Articulate project, subject to compatible software and technical requirements. Agreed text and other supporting materials can also be included to make future changes easier.
Can you develop courses in German and English?
Yes. I develop courses in English and can also create German-language courses on request. For specialised scientific or technical terminology, I work with your subject-matter experts to check the wording. Other language versions can be discussed if suitable translation and review are available.
